Malfunction Indicator Lamp: Testing and Inspection
DESCRIPTION
- Malfunction Indicator Lamp never on.
TEST 1
Is number 7 fuse burnt?
YES -- Repair wiring harness and replace fuse.
NO -- Go to Test 2.
TEST 2
Is there correct voltage at the number 7 fuse?
Specification: More than 10.5V
YES -- Go to Test 3.
NO -- Repair open in wiring harness between fuse block and ignition switch.
TEST 3
Remove the Malfunction Indicator Lamp bulb. Is the voltage correct on the positive side of the Malfunction Indicator Lamp bulb socket?
Specification: More than 10.5V
YES -- Go to Test 4.
NO -- Repair open in wiring harness between fuse block and Malfunction Indicator Lamp bulb socket.
TEST 4
Apply 12 Volts and a ground to the Malfunction Indicator Lamp bulb.
Does the Malfunction Indicator Lamp bulb illuminate?
YES -- Go to Test 5.
NO -- Replace Malfunction Indicator Lamp bulb.
TEST 5
Special Service Tool (SST)-Break Out Box (Used For Voltage Pin Tests):
Disconnect the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Install Special Service Tool (SST) (Break Out Box) to the PCM connector.

Does continuity exist between Malfunction Indicator Lamp socket and test pin 17?
YES -- Replace PCM.
NO -- Repair open circuit in wiring harness between PCM and Malfunction Indicator Lamp socket.
