Intake Manifold: Service and Repair
INTAKE MANIFOLD
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Drain the engine coolant.
3. Remove in the order shown in the figure, referring to removal note.
REMOVAL SEQUENCE
1. Air intake pipe
2. Accelerator cable
4. Brake vacuum hose
Removal Note:
5. Fuel hose
Warning: Release the Fuel Pressure. (Refer to Powertrain Management, Technician Safety Information, Fuel Line Safety Procedures.)
Warning: Cover the hose with a rag because fuel will spray out when disconnecting. Keep sparks and open flame away from the fuel area. Plug the disconnected hoses to avoid fuel leakage.
6. Emission harness connectors and grounds
7. Distributor
8. Extension manifold
9. Intake manifold assembly
10. Intake manifold gaskets
Loosen the installation bolts in two or three steps in the order shown in the figure.
INSTALLATION
Install in the reverse order of removal.
INSTALLATION SEQUENCE
10. Place the new gasket in position.
9. Install the intake manifold.

6. Emission harness connectors and grounds
5. Fuel hose
4. Brake vacuum hose
2. Accelerator cable
1. Air intake pipe
3. Tighten the flange nuts in two or three steps in the order shown in the figure.
Tightening torque: 19-25 N.m {l.9-2.6 kgf.m, 14-18 ft.lbf}.
Emission Harness Connector
Install the emission harness connectors in the order shown in the figure.
1. Airflow meter
2. High-tension lead
3. Alternator
4. Water thermosensor
5. Solenoid valve (VRIS)
6. Ground wire
7. Injector harness
8. Distributor
9. Oil pressure switch
10. BAC valve
11. Throttle sensor
12. Oxygen sensor
