Ignition Control Module: Testing and Inspection

Igniter Testing:

NOTE: This test requires Mazda Special Service Tools (SST) or aftermarket equivalents.


1. Disconnect igniter connector.
2. Connect adapter (SST #49 H018 910) between igniter and wiring harness.
3. Connectan ohmmeter as follows:
+ lead to ground
- lead to SST
Set the scale on the ohmmeter to X 1.
4. Connect igniter checker power leads to battery.
5. Turn ignition switch "ON."
6. Flip SW2 "ON" and "OFF" and verify that the pointer needle jumps then returns.

CAUTION: Do not hold SW2 "ON" for longer than one second or damage to the igniter may occur.


7. Replace igniter if it behaves other than specified.
