Piston & Connecting Rod
1. Apply a liberal amount of clean engine oil to cylinder walls, pistons and rings.2. Install each piston assembly into cylinder block with "F" mark facing front of engine.
3. Check connecting rod bearing clearances using same procedure as used in Crankshaft main bearing oil clearance. Align matching marks on cap and on connecting rod when installing connecting rod caps. Connecting rod caps should be tightened to specifications. If clearance is more than 0.0039 inch, grind crankshaft and use undersize bearings.
4. Check side clearance of each connecting rod without cap installed. If clearance exceeds 0.012 inch, replace connecting rod.
5. Apply a liberal amount of engine oil to crankpin journal and connecting rod bearing.
6. Install connecting rod cap with alignment marks aligned. Tighten caps to specifications.
7. Ensure crankshaft rotates smoothly.
