Ignition Timing: Adjustments
Timing Adjustment:
PREPARATION
1. Check engine condition (spark plugs, vacuum leaks, etc.).
2. Turn all electrical loads "OFF."
3. Warm engine to operating temperature.
4. Connect tachometer to data link connector terminal IG-. Connect timing light.
5. Apply parking brake.
ADJUSTMENT
1. Connect jumper wire between data link connectors TEN and GND.
2. Check idle speed. Set to specification if needed:
IDLE SPEED: 750 - 790 rpm
3. Check if timing mark (yellow) on crank pulley is aligned with mark on timing belt cover:
TIMING: 4° - 6° BTDC
4. If adjustment is needed, loosen lock bolts and turn distributor to adjust.
5. Following adjustment, tighten lock bolts and remove jumper wire.
TORQUE: 14 - 19 ftlb (19 - 25 Nm)
