Ignition Coil: Testing and Inspection
Ignition Coil Testing:
SECONDARY COIL WINDING
1. Remove high-tension leads.
2. Measure secondary winding resistance of each coil. It should be 8.7 - 12.9K ohms @ 68°F (20°C).
3. If not within specification, replace coil.
CASE INSULATION RESISTANCE
1. Remove high-tension leads and unplug connectors.
2. Use a 500V megger tester to measure insulation resistance between primary terminal and coil case. It should be above 10M ohms.
3. If not within specification, replace coil.
