Cylinder Identification Sensor: Testing and Inspection
NOTE: The Camshaft Position Signal is a non tangible component SIGNAL which is used as a Powertrain Control Module (PCM) input. The signal represents when the No.1 Cyl. is @ TDC. Since this TDC event repeats with every engine revolution, the signal coincides with engine speed. The Camshaft Position Signal will produce an RPM signal when probed at the PCM input Pin No.56.PROCEDURE
Connect the Special Service Tool "Break Out Box" to the PCM and measure the RPM signal at PCM pin No.56.
Readings:
- Hot Idle: 730-830 RPM
- Driving 48 km/h (30 mph): 1360-1460 RPM (A/T)
- Driving 48 km/h (30 mph): 1140-1300 RPM (M/T)
- Driving 88 km/h (55 mph): 1580-1780 RPM (A/T)
- Driving 88 km/h (55 mph): 1680-1820 RPM (M/T)
If readings vary more than ±20% of specified signals check the following:
- Ignition Control Module
- Crankshaft Position Sensor
- Related circuits between Crankshaft Position Sensor, Ignition Control Module and PCM.
Refer to Camshaft Position Signal Diagnostic Trouble Code 211, for additional circuit inspections. DTC 211
