Ignition Timing: Adjustments

IGNITION TIMING INSPECTION
The ignition timing is computer controlled with no provision for adjustment. The ignition timing can be checked to verify proper ignition system operation.

Preparation
- Warm engine to operating temperature.
- Turn Off all electrical loads.
- Headlamp switch
- Blower switch
- Climate control panel

NOTE: If the climate control panel is in the DEFROSTER mode, the A/C compressor will be On. Verify the A/C is Off during ignition timing and/or self diagnostic checks.

Inspection
- Connect a timing light to the engine.
- Disconnect the shorting bar from the Spark Output (SPOUT) connector.
- Verify ignition timing is within specification.

Specification: 10° BTDC (±2°)

- If the ignition timing is not within specification, check crankshaft position sensor for damage.
- Re-connect the shorting bar to the SPOUT connector.
