Neutral Safety Switch: Service and Repair

Neutral Drive Switch:

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect switch electrical harness.
3. Remove switch and O-ring with special tool T74P-77247-A or equivalent thin wall socket.

WARNING: Use of other than specified tools may crush or puncture the walls of the switch.

INSTALLATION

1. Install switch and O-ring with same tool used for removal. Tighten switch to 7 - 10 ft.lb (9.5 - 13.6 Nm).
2. Connect electrical harness to switch.
3. Connect negative battery cable.
4. Check switch operation with parking brake applied. The engine should only start with gear selector in "N" or "P" positions. Back-up lights should only illuminate with selector in "R" position.
