Installation

Fig. 56, Cutting Off Excess Gasket:





1. Turn the engine on the engine stand so that the bottom of the engine is up.
2. Place the oil strainer gasket and strainer on the front housing and tighten the attaching bolts.
3. Cut off the excess gaskets along the mounting surface of the oil pan, as shown in Fig. 56.

4. Apply the 0.16 - 0.24 in. (4 - 6 mm) diameter continuous bead of sealer (Part number 0398 77 739) on the mounting surface of the oil pan as shown in Fig. 57. Be sure there are no gaps in the sealer bead.
5. Position the oil pan on engine.
6. Install bolts and torque alternately and evenly to specification.
