System Inspection
System Inspection Using Tachometer1. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature and let it idle.
2. Shift the selector lever to P
3. Turn off all electrical loads.
- Headlight
- Rear window defroster
- Blower motor
- Power steering
- A/C
4. Connect a tachometer to the data link connector terminal IG-.
5. Verify that the coolant fan is not operating.
6. Verify that the idle speed is within specification.
Specification: 600-700 (650 ± 50) rpm
7. If not as specified, adjust the idle speed.
8. Verify that the idle speed is within specification with the load condition as shown below.
Specification
*1: Excludes temporary idle speed drop just after the electrical loads are turned on.
*2: When all following conditions are satisfied.
- Blower motor operating at high speed
- Headlight switch turned on
- Rear window defroster switch turned on
9. If not as specified, check related input switches and inspect the idle air control valve.
System Inspection Using SST-New Generation Star (NGS) Tester
1. Connect the SST to the data link connector-2.
2. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature and let it idle.
3. Shift the selector lever to P.
4. Turn off all electrical loads.
- Headlight
- Blower motor
- Rear window defroster
- Power steering
- A/C
5. Verify that the coolant fan is not operating.
6. Select the PID/DATA MONITOR AND RECORD function of the NGS. Select "RPM" on the NGS display. NGS measures and shows the idle speed.
Specification
*1: Excludes temporary idle speed drop just after the electrical loads are turned on.
*2: When all following conditions are satisfied.
- Blower motor operating at high speed
- Headlight switch turned on
- Rear window defroster switch turned on
7. If not as specified, use the SIMULATION TEST function to set the ISC duty value at random and check if the idle speed changes.
8. If idle speed changes, check related input switches. If idle speed does not change, inspect the idle air control valve.
