Exhaust Gas Recirculation System (EGR)
Inspection1. Warm up the engine to normal operation temperature and let it idle.
2. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the EGR valve side of the EGR solenoid valve (vent) and connect a vacuum gauge.
3. By using the vacuum gauge, verify that there is no vacuum.
4. If there is vacuum, check the following.
^ PCM terminal voltage
EGR control signal (vent, vacuum)
^ EGR solenoid valves
5. Position the vehicle on a chassis roller and shift the selector lever to D (ATX).
6. Run the engine at 1,200-4,000 rpm.
7. Verify that there is vacuum after 30 sec. running.
8. If there is no vacuum, check the following.
^ PCM terminal voltage
EGR control signal (vent, vacuum)
Load/No load distinction signal
^ Engine coolant temperature sensor
^ EGR solenoid valves
^ EGR valve position sensor
^ Vacuum hose for damage and looseness
^ EGR boost sensor
^ EGR boost sensor solenoid valve
