DESCRIPTION

A high idle condition may occur on some vehicles with manual transmissions after reaching normal operating temperature. The PCM's "Adaptive Strategy related to customer unique driving characteristics may be the cause of the concern. A revised PCM is available to resolve this concern. Customers complaining of this concern should have the vehicle inspected and if necessary, have a revised PCM installed.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify the concern.

2. Confirm calibration (refer to Parts Information) and that the revised PCM is not installed already.

^ If the vehicle's calibration matched those listed in the Parts Information and there is not a "Authorized Modification decal with this bulletin number installed on the radiator support, proceed to step 3.

^ If the vehicle's calibration does not match or the vehicle has the revised PCM installed, refer to the work-shop manual for troubleshooting and repair information.

3. Perform the normal diagnostic procedure according to section F of the applicable workshop manual. Services as required.

4. If the concern still exists, inspect the IAC valve for proper operation and the throttle cable and linkage for binding.

^ If problems are present, repair as necessary and retest the vehicle for the concern.

^ If no problems are found, proceed to step 5.

5. Remove PCM and install revised PCM. Refer to the Part Information section for correct part usage.

6. List the date, dealer code and service bulletin number on the "Authorized Modification decal.

^ Clean the area next to the Vehicle Emission Control Information decal and install the "Authorized Modification decal.
