MIL ILLUMINATION WITH DTC P1405 NO DRIVEABILITY CONCERNS
AFFECTED MODELS
All 1997 B3000 vehicles with a calibration code listed in the Parts Information Section of this bulletin.
DESCRIPTION
IMPORTANT
This repair is not authorized for vehicles with other than the above calibration codes. Performing this repair on other engine calibrations is unauthorized and may be in violation of state and federal law.
DESCRIPTION
A Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may illuminate without any related driveability concerns. Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1405 may be stored in continuous memory. This may be caused by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) calibration.
Customers complaining of this concern should have the vehicle inspected and if necessary, install a revised Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Confirm calibration or that the vehicle does not have the latest calibration already installed.
NOTE:
Calibration label is located on the driver's side "B" pillar.
^ If the vehicle has one of the indicated calibration codes, and there is no PCM change label on the radiator support with this Service Bulletin number written on it, proceed to step 3.
^ If the vehicle does not have one of the calibration codes or has a revised PCM installed, refer to the workshop manual for troubleshooting and repair information.
2. Perform normal diagnostic procedure for EEC-V & Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) systems according to section "F" of the workshop manual.
^ If any DTC(s) are recorded, repair as necessary.
3. Verify the concern.
^ If the concern is present, proceed to step 4.
^ If the concern is not present, return vehicle to the customer.
4. Install the revised PCM. Refer to the Parts Information.
5. List the date, dealer number, alterations performed and Service Bulletin number on the "Authorized Modification" label.
6. Clean an area near the Emission Control Information decal (located on the radiator support) and install the "Authorized Modification" label.
7. Verify repair.
