EGR System Function Test
INSPECTION1. Connect suitable scan tool to the data link connector. The data link connector is attached to the instrument panel and is accessible from the drivers seat.
2. Disconnect vacuum hose at exhaust gas recirculation valve and install plug in hose end.
3. Connect a suitable hand held vacuum pump to the exhaust gas recirculation valve.
4. Start engine and allow to idle.
5. Using scan tool, access DPFEGR and RPM PIDs.
6. Slowly apply 10-15 inches of Hg. of vacuum to the exhaust gas recirculation valve and hold for approximately 10 seconds. If engine starts to stall, increase throttle opening to maintain a minimum of 800 RPM.
7. The exhaust gas recirculation valve should begin to open when approximately 1.6 inches Hg. of vacuum is applied. The DPFEGR voltage reading on the scan tool will continue to increase until the exhaust gas recirculation valve is fully opened. When the exhaust gas recirculation valve is fully opened, the DPFEGR voltage reading should be approximately 2.5 volts.
8. The DPFEGR voltage reading should remain steady as vacuum is held. If the voltage reading drops within a few seconds, the exhaust gas recirculation valve or vacuum source may be leaking.
