ROUGH IDLE / BLACK SMOKE AFTER HOT ENGINE RESTART

APPLICABLE MODELS
1996 MPV with a VIN of JM3LV52**T0804446 and lower.

DESCRIPTION
A rough idle and or black smoke may occur after a hot restart. This concern is caused by a rich setting in the fuel injection logic of the ECM during hot engine conditions.

To correct this concern fuel injector logic is changed. This change also requires
^ New Emission Label
^ PRC Solenoid Valve (No.2)
^ Vacuum Hose

Customers complaining of this condition should have the vehicle inspected and repaired according to this bulletin.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify the complaint.

2. Replace the following with modified parts:
^ ECM
^ Emission Control Label

3. Remove the PRC solenoid valve.





4. Install a modified valve on the bracket so the connector is in the upward position. Refer to Fig. 1

5. Remove the blind cap from the vacuum pipe and install the vacuum hose.





6. Connect the other end of the vacuum hose to port "A" of the PRC solenoid valve. Refer to Fig. 2

7. Remove the vacuum hose connector and protector from hose "C" and connect the hose to port "C" of the PRC solenoid valve.

8. Insert the end of vacuum hose "B" into port "B" of the PRC solenoid valve.
