INSPECTION

NOTE: The following vacuum and pressure values are indicated by relative pressure from atmospheric pressure.

1. Connect the Special Service Tool (SST) to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) as shown.

CAUTION: Do not apply a vacuum or pressure outside of the specified limits. Doing so will damage the EGR boost sensor.

2. Apply pressure then a vacuum to the EGR boost sensor according to the following procedure.

3. Decrease the applied pressure from +3.7 kPa (+28 mm/Hg, +1.1 in.Hg) to -86.3 kPa (-647 mm/Hg, -25.5 in.Hg) and verity that the PCM terminal 34 voltage decreases linearly.

Reference data

NOTE: The output voltage will change according to the measuring condition.

Measuring condition:
- Input voltage - 5.12 V
- Atmospheric pressure - 101.3 kPa (760 mm/Hg, 29.9 in.Hg)
- Ambient temperature - 25°C (77°F)

4. If not as specified, perform the following inspection.

Harness continuity
- Between PCM terminal 91 and EGR boost sensor terminal A
- Between PCM terminal 34 and EGR boost sensor terminal B
- Between PCM terminal 90 and EGR boost sensor terminal C

Terminal voltage (Ignition switch ON)
- EGR boost sensor terminal A voltage: Ground (Below 1.0 V)
- EGR boost sensor terminal C voltage: Constant voltage (4.5-5.5 V)

5. If terminal voltage is correct and there is harness continuity, replace the EGR boost sensor.
