Catalytic Converter: Testing and Inspection

PROCEDURE
The catalytic converter may be installed at or near the exhaust manifold or in the exhaust system along the vehicle under body. The body of the catalytic converter should be inspected for distortion and other types of damage. Excessive heat can bulge or distort the converter. Since excessive heat build up is not the fault of the converter, the fuel or ignition system should be checked whenever a converter is damaged by overheating. Also inspect for missing or improperly installed catalytic converter heat shields.
