Generic Electronic Module
Warning Lamps and Chimes
Operation (GEM/CTM)
When the ignition switch is turned to the RUN position and a door is opened, the door ajar switch opens. The GEM/CTM senses an open door circuit and illuminates the door ajar warning lamp and activates the door ajar chime. Also, interior lamp comes on.
When vehicle speed reaches 48 km/h (30 mph), the interior lamp automatically turns off. However, the door ajar warning lamp and chime are still active.
When the ignition switch is turned to the RUN position and a seat belt is not connected to the anchor, the seat belt switch opens. The GEM/CTM senses an open seat belt circuit and illuminates the seat belt lamp and activates the seat belt chime.
Battery Saver, Illuminated Entry and Interior Lamps
Illuminated Entry and Interior Lamps - Operation (GEM/CTM)
The GEM/CTM activates the interior lamps when a door handle is lifted (illuminated entry) or a door is ajar (interior lamp control) and turns the lamps off when any of the following conditions exist:
^ 25 seconds after all doors are closed.
^ Ignition key is turned to RUN position.
^ Vehicle speed is over 5 km/h (3 mph).
^ Power door lock command is received.
Battery Saver - Operation (GEM/CTM)
The battery saver interrupts power to the accessory lamp relay, dome lamps, cargo lamp, map lamps, glove box lamp, vanity mirrors and interior lamp relay 40 minutes after the ignition switch is moved to the OFF position.
One-Touch-Down Power Windows
Operation (GEM ONLY)
When a window control rocker switch is quickly tapped into the DOWN position, the GEM activates the one-touch-down relay, supplying power to the window motor. The window motor then moves the window to the fully DOWN position.
Power Door Locks
Operation (GEM ONLY)
The remote anti-theft personality module sends a door lock position signal to the GEM. The GEM uses this signal for the battery saver function.
Remote Keyless Entry
Operation - Remote Keyless Entry (GEM ONLY)
The all unlock relay sends a door lock position signal to the GEM. The GEM uses this signal for the battery saver function.
Operation - Two-Step Unlock
When the remote transmitter sends a disarm signal to the RAP module, the RAP module sends a signal to the GEM. The GEM sends a signal back to the RAP module to close the driver unlock relay. When the driver unlock relay closes, current is sent to the driver door lock actuator, opening the driver door.
If the remote transmitter sends a second disarm signal to the RAP module, the RAP module sends another signal to the GEM. The GEM sends a signal back to the RAP module to close the all unlock relay. When the all unlock relay closes, current is sent to both door lock actuators, opening both doors.
Anti-Theft System
Operation (GEM ONLY)
The RAP module receives door ajar signals from the GEM.
The RAP module sends an illuminated entry on/off signal to the GEM.
Front Washer and Wiper System
Washer/Wiper System - Operation (GEM AND CTM)
All signals from the windshield wiper switch are sent to the GEM/CTM. The GEM/CTM will send signals to the power distribution box, hi/low speed relay or the wash control relay. These signals will then be sent to the windshield wiper motor or the washer pump motor.
Electronic Shift System - Operation (GEM ONLY)
The Dana 35 IFS has a vacuum-operated disconnect system for the 4WD operation which eliminates the need for hub locks at the wheel ends.
When 4WD mode is selected, the GEM energizes the electronic vacuum control valve that applies vacuum to the shift motor through a vacuum canister. The vacuum that is applied to the shift motor moves the shift fork located inside the disconnect housing against a locking collar and slides it between the inner shaft and a constant shaft locking them together, which engages the axle.
