APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
All 1997 B-Series built up to 6/97 with electric shift control, 4WD with rear ABS.
DESCRIPTION
The Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) may illuminate after front brake lock-up during 4WD mode. Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 5 may also be stored in memory. This concern may be caused by the Rear Anti-lock Brake System (RABS) module not sensing that the vehicle is in 4WD mode. A service kit is now available to provide the proper 4WD signal to the RABS module.
Note
^ The ABS light will turn off after the vehicle's ignition is turned off. It will not illuminate again until the above condition or some other error occurs; however, DTC 5 will remain stored in memory as a pending code.
Customers complaining of this concern should have the vehicle inspected and if necessary, have the service kit installed.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verity the concern.
^ If the concern is present, install the service kit.
^ If the concern is not found, refer to the workshop manual for troubleshooting and repair instructions.
Caution
^ Use care when testing the brakes to ensure control of the vehicle at all times.
