Fuel Pressure Regulator Control Inspection

WARNING: Fuel line spills and leaks are dangerous. Fuel can ignite and cause serious injuries or death and damage. Fuel can also irritate the skin and eyes. To prevent this, always complete the "FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE PROCEDURE".

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.




2. Connect a pressure gauge between the fuel filter (high-pressure side) and the fuel distributor.
3. Connect the negative battery cable.
4. Measure the fuel line pressure under the following conditions.






INSPECTION




1. Connect the Special Service Tools (SST)s New Generation Star (NGS) tester to the data link connector and battery.
2. Start the engine and let it idle.
3. Select "SIMULATION TEST" and press TRIGGER.
4. Select "IDLING TEST" and press TRIGGER.
5. Select "PRCV" and press TRIGGER.
6. Press START
7. Turn the PRC solenoid valve from OFF to ON and check if the fuel pressure changes.
(1) If the pressure changes between 270 - 310 kPa (38 - 46 psi), check the following.
- PCM terminal 3E, 3K, 3M and 3L voltage.

(2) If the pressure does not change, do as follows.
A Select "PRCV" and press TRIGGER.
B Press START
C Turn the PRC solenoid valve from OFF to ON and check if the operation sound of the valve is heard.
D If the operation sound is heard, check the pressure regulator.
E If the operation sound is not heard, check the PRC solenoid valve.

INSPECTION 2
1. Connect the SSTs to the data link connector and battery.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
3. Select "SIMULATION TEST" function on the NGS display.
4. Turn the PRC solenoid valve from OFF to ON by using the "PRCV" and check if the operation sound is heard.
(1) If the operation sound is heard, check the loose or damaged vacuum hose. (Pressure regulator - PRO solenoid valve - intake manifold)
(2) If the operation sound is not heard, check the PRC solenoid valve.
