Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Fuel Cut Control Inspection

1. Warm up the engine and let it idle.
2. Turn off the electrical loads and A/C switch.

DLC-1:

3. If the Special Service Tools (SST)s New Generation Star (NGS) tester is not used, connect a tachometer to the data link connector terminal IG-.

4. If the SST (NGS) is used, connect the SST to the data link connector and battery.
5. Select "PID/DATA MONITOR AND RECORD" and press TRIGGER.
6. Select RPM" and press TRIGGER.
7. Press START
8. Using a soundscope, listen for the fuel injector operation sound at all cylinders.
(1) Open the throttle valve and increase the engine speed to 4,000 rpm.
(2) Quickly close the throttle valve and verify that the fuel injector operation sound stops when the throttle valve is closed, and starts again when the engine speed dropped below 1,000 rpm.
A If the operation sound does not stop at all cylinders, inspect the PCM terminal 3L voltage.
B If the operation sound does not stop at some cylinders, inspect the suspected faulty fuel injector and related wiring harness and connector.
C If the operation sound stops but the fuel injectors resume operation at an engine speed out of the specification, inspect the PCM terminal 3L, 3E voltages.

9. Place the vehicle on a chassis roller.
10. Shift into any gear and drive the car on a chassis roller if the SST (NGS) is not used, check the following.
(1) Depress the accelerator pedal and increase the engine speed to 2,000 rpm.
(2) Release the accelerator pedal (brake pedal not depressed) and check that the fuel injector sound stops and starts again when the engine speed drops below 1,000 rpm by using sound- scope.
(3) If not, check the following.
- PCM terminal 1L voltage.

11. If the SST (NGS) is used, check the following
(1) Select "INJ" and press TRIGGER.
(2) Press START
(3) Depress the accelerator pedal and increase the engine speed to 2,000 rpm.
(4) Release the accelerator pedal (brake pedal not depressed) and check that the fuel injector duration time is 0 msec., and 2 - 5 msec. when the engine speed drops below 1,000 rpm.
(5) If not, check the following.
- PCM terminal 1L voltage.
