Engine Removal/Installation
ENGINE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION1. Relieve the fuel pressure.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Drain the engine coolant.
4. Remove the hood.
5. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube.
6. Remove the accelerator control splash shield.
7. Remove the upper radiator hose.
8. Remove the lower radiator hose.
9. Remove the two bolts and position the fan shroud on the fan blade.
10. Remove the water pump pulley, and cooling fan and clutch.
11. Disconnect the radiator overflow tube.
12. On vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions, disconnect the transmission cooler lines.
13. Disconnect the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.
14. Disconnect the heater hoses at the inlet and outlet.
15. Disconnect the power connection from the generator.
16. Disconnect the vacuum connection to the vacuum tank reservoir.
17. Disconnect the throttle body heater hose.
18. Disconnect the A/C cycling switch.
19. Disconnect the PCM connector.
20. Remove the nut from the ground wire stud.
21. Remove the ground wire stud from the PCM.
22. Recover the A/C system.
23. Disconnect the power steering pressure switch.
24. Disconnect the peanut fitting from the A/C condenser core.
25. Disconnect the A/C pressure cut-out switch connector.
26. Disconnect the A/C manifold and tube assembly.
27. Remove the nut.
28. Disconnect the accelerator cable and cruise control cable.
29. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose and EVR tube at the upper intake manifold assembly.
30. Disconnect the EVR vacuum supply hose.
31. Disconnect the 42-pin wiring connector.
32. Disconnect the fuel line.
33. Disconnect the A/C cycling switch connector and position aside.
34. Disconnect the power steering pressure and return hoses.
35. Remove the nut retaining the wiring harness.
36. Disconnect the block heater if equipped.
37. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
38. Disconnect the engine ground cable.
39. On vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions, disconnect the two transmission harness connectors. On vehicles equipped with manual transmissions, disconnect the transmission harness and the heated oxygen sensor (H02S)
40. Remove the starter motor.
41. Remove the nut retaining the starter harness and transmission cooler brackets.
42. Disconnect the three way catalytic converter.
43. On automatic transmissions, remove the four torque converter nuts.
Note: The torque converter nuts are accessed through the starter motor hole.
44. Remove the six bolts.
45. Lower the vehicle.
46. Support the transmission with a floor jack.
47. Remove the Differential Pressure Feedback EGR (DPFE) sensor.
48. Support the engine with a floor crane.
49. Remove the two upper transmission - to - engine bolts.
50. On vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions, disconnect then separate the Heated Oxygen Sensor (H02S) connector from the bracket located on the bell housing.
51. Remove the four nuts.
52. Remove the engine from the vehicle.
53. On vehicles equipped with manual transmissions, remove the clutch.
54. Remove the flywheel.
55. Mount the engine on a suitable work stand.
56. Install in the reverse order of removal.
