Valve Spring Inspection

VALVE SPRING INSPECTION

1. Measure the installed length of each valve spring. Verify the length is within specification.





2. Measure the free length of each valve spring. Verify the length is within specification.





3. Measure the out-of-square on each valve spring.
(1). Turn the valve spring and observe the space between the top of the valve spring and the square.
(2). Replace the valve spring if out of specification.





4. Following instructions of spring tester manufacturer, check the valve springs for proper strength at the specified valve spring length.
