Condenser HVAC: Service and Repair

CAUTION: To prevent system contamination, whenever the condenser core is replaced, also replace the receiver/drier.

NOTE: If a condenser core leak is suspected, the condenser core must be leak tested before it is removed from the vehicle; refer to A/C EVAPORATOR / CONDENSER CORE ON-VEHICLE LEAK TEST.

1. On the 4.0L engine remove the air intake duct and the engine air cleaner; refer to INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM (4.0L).
2. Recover the refrigerant; refer to REFRIGERANT SYSTEM TESTS.




3. Disconnect the condenser to evaporator line from the condenser core.




4. Disconnect the manifold and tube assembly from the condenser core.




5. Remove the radiator mounting screws and tilt the radiator back.




6. Remove the push pins and remove the top seal.




7. Remove the condenser core mounting screws and condenser core.
8. Install in the reverse order of removal.
1. Lubricate the O-ring seal with refrigerant oil.
2. Service replacement condenser core with the correct amount of refrigerant oil; refer to REFRIGERANT OIL ADDITION.
