1999-2000 B-SERIES MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH REPLACEMENT (SSP # 44)A. VEHICLE INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1. Verify the vehicle meets the following criteria:
^ Has a build date between 8/3/98 - 09/12/99
^ Is either a 4X4 or a 4X2 with power windows.
- If the vehicle meets both criteria, proceed to STEP 2.
- If the vehicle does not meet both criteria, return it to the customer or inventory.
Note:
^ If the vehicle is a 4x2 without power windows and is exhibiting a wiper related concern, This SSP does not apply to these vehicles. Refer to Service Bulletin 09-009/00.
2. Perform a Vehicle Status Inquiry using your MDCS System and inspect vehicle for an Authorized Modification Label SSP44 attached to the drivers side door. Refer to illustration.
Note:
^ Be sure to verify the SSP number as the vehicle may have multiple labels.
- If MDCS displays SSP44 N and an Authorized Modification Label is not present, the SSP has not been performed. Proceed to "B. REPAIR PROCEDURE."
- If MDCS displays SSP44 N and an Authorized Modification Label is present, contact the Warranty Department. They will update the vehicle history.
- If MDCS displays SSP44 D and an Authorized Modification Label is not present, proceed to "C. AUTHORIZED MODIFICATION LABEL INSTALLATION."
- If MDCS displays SSP44 D and an Authorized Modification Label is present, the SSP has already been completed. Return the vehicle to the customer or inventory.
- If MDCS does not display SSP44 N or SSP44 D, this SSP does not apply to the vehicle. Return vehicle to the customer or inventory.
B. REPAIR PROCEDURE
Note:
^ Do not replace the GEM when performing this SSR
1. Record the radio stations presets and disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the tilt wheel handle by turning the handle counterclockwise (if equipped).
3. Remove the three (3) upper and lower steering column shroud retaining screws and remove the shrouds.
4. Remove the two (2) multifunction switch retaining screws, disconnect the electrical connectors, and remove the multifunction switch. Refer to the illustration.
5. Inspect the multifunction switch electrical connector pins to make sure they are not loose or pushed out in the connectors.
6. Connect the new multifunction switch, making sure the electrical connectors snap into place and are fully seated.
7. Install the new switch to the column and tighten the screws.
Tightening torque 3 Nm (27 lb-in)
8. Install the upper and lower steering column shrouds. Tighten the screws.
Tightening torque 1 Nm (9 lb-in)
9. Install the tilt wheel handle.
1O. Connect the battery ground cable, reprogram the audio presets and set the clock.
C. AUTHORIZED MODIFICATION LABEL INSTALLATION
Complete an "Authorized Modification Label" and affix it to the drivers side door. Refer back to the illustration under "A. VEHICLE INSPECTION PROCEDURE".
