Engine Lubrication: Testing and Inspection

OIL PRESSURE INSPECTION

Warning:
- Continuous exposure with USED engine oil has caused skin cancer in laboratory mice. Protect your skin by washing with soap and water immediately after this work.
- When the engine and the oil are hot, they can badly burn. Turn off the engine and wait until they are cool.

1. Remove the drive belt.
2. Remove the A/C compressor with the pipe still connected. Position the A/C compressor so that it is out of the way.
3. Remove the oil pressure switch.

4. Screw the SSTs into the oil pressure switch installation hole.
5. Install the A/C compressor.
6. Install the drive belt.
7. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
8. Run the engine at the specified speed, and note the gauge readings.
- If the pressure is not as specified, inspect for the cause and repair or replace as necessary.

Note: The oil pressure can vary with oil viscosity and temperature.

Oil pressure: 138 - 310 kPa (1.40 - 3.17 kgf/cm2, 20 - 45 psi) [1,500 rpm]
9. Stop the engine and wait until it is cool.
10. Remove the drive belt.
11. Remove the A/C compressor with the pipe still connected. Position the A/C compressor so that it is out of the way.
12. Remove the SSTs.

13. Apply silicone sealant to the oil pressure switch threads as shown.
14. Install the oil pressure switch.
Tightening torque: 12 - 16 Nm (1.2 - 1.7 kgf-m, 9 - 12 ft. lbs.)
15. Install the A/C compressor.
16. Install the drive belt.
17. Start the engine and inspect for oil leakage.
