Interior - Seat Belts Uncomfortable

Bulletin No: 08-001/02

Last Issued: 07/10/2002

Subject:
UNCOMFORTABLE SEAT BELT

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
All 2000-2001 MPVs with VINs lower than JM3 LW28** **179938.

DESCRIPTION

Some passengers may experience a pre-locked, very tight, or uncomfortable situation when fastening the front passenger seat belt. This is because the seat belt is not long enough for some customers and this causes the retractor to activate the Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) mode allowing the belt to tighten.

A new seat belt has been introduced with the following changes to prevent this condition:

^ The length of the passenger seat belt has been increased by 150 mm.

^ The activation point of the ALR mode has been changed.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Verify the production date on the label of the front passenger seat belt.

- If the production date is on and after October 30, 2000, this is a revised seat belt. No part replacement is required.

- If the production date is before October 30, 2000, proceed to STEP 3.

3. Replace the passenger seat belt with a new seat belt according to Workshop Manual (section 08-11 FRONT SEAT BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

4. Verify repair.
