Shifter A/T: Service and Repair

SELECTOR LEVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

Warning: Handling the air bag module improperly can accidentally deploy the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS before handling the air bag module. (Refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts.)

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.





2. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
3. Install in the reverse order of removal.
4. Inspect the shift-lock.
5. Inspect the shift-lock release lever.
6. Inspect the key interlock system.

Clip Removal Note

Note Do not reuse the clip when any of the hooks are deformed.





1. While compressing the clip hooks, remove the selector cable and clip as a unit from the bracket.

Selector Cable Installation Note
1. Shift the selector lever and manual shaft to P position.





Caution: Bending the selector cable as shown in the figure will damage the cable and cause it to become loose during shifting. When handling and installing the selector cable, hold it straight.





2. Install the selector cable to the manual shaft lever so that the spring side of the selector cable end faces upward.
3. Install the selector cable to the bracket securely.
4. Install the selector cable to the steering shaft bracket securely.
5. Install the selector cable to the selector lever bolt.





6. Install nut A onto the selector lever bolt temporarily.
7. Shift the selector lever to P position.





8. Pull the selector lever to the R position side gate of P position, and tighten nut A.
Tightening torque
16 - 22 Nm (1.6 - 2.3 kgf.m, 12 - 16 ft. lbs.)





9. Verify that the selector lever bolt end is exposed from the nut.
