DESCRIPTION

When the engine is first started cold and idling, a rubbing or squeal noise is heard from the drive belt when the vehicle is put into DRIVE or REVERSE gear with the AC ON. This noise usually occurs on vehicles with less than 5000 miles from vehicle delivery and may only last approximately the first two minutes of engine operation. This is due to excess wax used in belt production exuding from the belt causing the belt to slip/stick during cold operation. A modified belt has been established to eliminate this concern.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Replace drive belt with modified part. Refer to the Workshop Manual (01-10B).

3. Verify repair.
