Air Bag System - Warning Lamp ON/DTC's 26/37 Set

AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON - DTC 26
AND/OR DTC 37

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may experience the airbag warning light coming on with DTC 26 (driver side) and/or DTC 37 (passenger side) stored in memory. This concern may be caused by poor contact between the terminals and the wires in the harness to the side airbag module connector. A service harness kit is available to repair this concern.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

WARNING:
Before beginning the repair, read Workshop Manual (section 08-10). Handling airbag related components improperly can accidentally deploy the airbag module, which may seriously injure you. Be sure to read "AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS" before handling airbag related components.

OUTLINE:

^ Repair adds a service harness to the current airbag system harness.

^ Repair changes the wiring route of the airbag system harness.

^ Before beginning the repair, be sure to confirm the location of each connector by referring to the following illustration.





NOTE:
Do not confuse the left and right connectors; make sure the center position label is attached in the center of the harness.

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Turn ignition switch to ON position.

3. Record customer's pre-set radio stations.

4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position.

5. Remove seat track to floor mounting hardware.

6. To ease front seat removal, move both left and right front seat bottoms and seat backs to the most forward position, then remove both front seats.

7. Disconnect negative battery cable.

8. Remove both left and right front scuff plates.

9. Remove left side lower dash cover (if equipped).

10. Remove both left and right rear scuff plates.

11. Remove both left and right B-pillar trims.

12. Remove center console.

13. Carefully fold down carpet on left side of center tunnel.

14. Locate SAS control module under the dash.





15. Disconnect 12-pin SAS control module connector.

16. Tape connector back to harness below heater box.

17. Connect new airbag harness to SAS control module connector.

18. Run new airbag harness along left side of center console, under carpet.




NOTE:
Make sure center position label on airbag harness is in center of console.

19. Carefully lift carpet and feed new harness underneath carpet to both left and right front seats and B-pillars.





20. Position new airbag harness on floor as shown below.

21. Cut old harness pig tails at break point.

22. Remove both left and right front seat belt retractors.

23. Disconnect old connector from side airbag sensors.





24. Slide connector casing towards harness, then disconnect old connector from harness.

25. Connect new connector to side airbag sensors.

26. Reinstall seat belt retractors.

27. Secure new harness with adhesive tape to the plastic harness cover at the rocker panels in front of the B-Pillars.

28. Secure new harness to current harness using tie-wrap from kit.





29. Cut old harness pig tails at break point.

30. Reinstall interior trim pieces and front seats in reverse order of Steps 5 - 12.

31. Reconnect negative battery cable.

32. Verify airbag system warning light illuminates for approximately 6 seconds, then goes off.

33. Re-enter customer's pre-set radio stations.
