Attachment II - Inspection and Repair Procedures
A. VEHICLE INSPECTION PROCEDURE1. Verify that the vehicle is within the following range:
^ VIN Range:
Tribute
2001-2003 Model Year (3.0L only) - 4F2****1* 1K M00137 - 4F2****1* 3K M11461
- If the vehicle is within the above range, proceed to step 2.
- If the vehicle is not within the above range, return the vehicle to the customer or inventory.
2. Perform a Warranty Vehicle Inquiry using your eMDCS System and inspect vehicle for Campaign Label RECALL 1904D attached to the vehicle's hood or bulkhead. Refer to illustration.
NOTE:
Be sure to verify RECALL number as the vehicle may have multiple RECALL labels.
- If eMDCS displays RECALL 1904D OPEN and a Campaign Label is not present, the RECALL has not been performed. Proceed to "B. PCM CALIBRATION LEVEL INSPECTION PROCEDURE".
- If eMDCS displays RECALL 1904D OPEN and a Campaign Label is present, contact the Mazda Corporate Dealer Assistance Group at (877)-727-6626. They will update the vehicle history.
- If eMDCS displays RECALL 1904D CLOSED and a Campaign Label is not present, proceed to "D. CAMPAIGN LABEL INSTALLATION".
- If eMDCS displays RECALL 1904D CLOSED and a Campaign Label is present, the RECALL has already been completed. Return the vehicle to inventory or the customer.
- If eMDCS does not display RECALL 1904D OPEN or RECALL 1904D CLOSED, this RECALL does not apply to the vehicle. Return vehicle to inventory or the customer.
B. PCM CALIBRATION LEVEL INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1. Using WDS B30.7 or later software, proceed to "Module Reprogramming" to check PCM calibration level.
- If WDS indicates the PCM is already at the latest calibration level (refer to CALIBRATION INFORMATION table shown), install an "Authorized Modification" label (9999-95-AMDC-97) next to the Emission Control sticker on the hood. This label will inform technicians of the PCM calibration change if future repairs are necessary.
Proceed to "D. CAMPAIGN LABEL INSTALLATION" and return the vehicle to the customer or inventory.
- If WDS indicates that a later calibration is available, proceed to "C. REPAIR PROCEDURE".
C. REPAIR PROCEDURE
In Service Bulletin O1-014/02R, issued 12/16/02, the intermittent engine quit and restart condition was addressed by performing a number of part replacements.
The service procedure in SB 01-014/02R is cancelled and no longer necessary. The intermittent engine quit and restart condition can be resolved by recalibrating the PCM.
1. Using WDS B30.7 or later software, reprogram the PCM to the latest calibration (refer to "Calibration Information" table) by following the "Module Reprogramming" procedure.
2. IMPORTANT: On certain 2001 Tribute vehicles, during the PCM reprogramming procedure with WDS, you will see a screen that asks:
Has the TSB as shown been performed?
NOTE:
^ Always update the WDS PTU first, then install the needed calibration file that WDS shows during PCM reprogramming. Go to "WDS Calibration" on ESI and download the "update" file. If the PTU is not updated to the latest WDS calibration level, the calibration file will not install into the PTU.
^ WDS shows the calibration part numbers after programming the PCM.
^ Please be aware that PCM calibration part numbers and file names listed in any Service Bulletin may change due to future releases of WDS software, and additional revisions made to those calibrations for service related concerns.
^ When reprogramming a PCM, WDS will always display the "latest" calibration P/N available for that vehicle. If any calibration has been revised/updated to contain new information for a new service concern/issue, it will also contain all previously released calibrations.
^ When performing this procedure, if the WDS PTU is not docked and connected to 115V-120V, we recommend that a battery charger be installed on the vehicle battery and turned ON to a maximum charge of no more than 20 AMPS to keep the vehicle battery up to capacity. If you exceed 20 AMPS, it will damage the WDS PTU.
^ Install an "Authorized Modification" label (P/N 9999-95-AMDC-97) with the new calibration information next to the Emission Control sticker on the hood. The "Authorized Modification" label will inform technicians of the PCM calibration change if future repairs are necessary.
3. Verify repair. Start engine and make sure that the MIL and any other abnormal warning lights are not illuminated.
D. CAMPAIGN LABEL INSTALLATION
Complete a "Campaign Label (P/N 9999-95-065A-00)" with the RECALL number, dealer code and date written on the sticker and affix it to the underside of the hood or bulkhead. Refer to the illustration under "A. VEHICLE INSPECTION PROCEDURE".
