Engine Controls - False MIL ON/False DTC's Set
Bulletin No: 01-025/02Last Issued: 11/22/2002
Subject:
PCM COMMUNICATION ERROR / FALSE DTCs
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINs
2002 MPVs with VINs lower than JM3 LW28** 20316566.
DESCRIPTION
Some vehicles may exhibit the following concerns, including:
^ A communication error between the WDS and the vehicle PCM.
^ The MIL (Malfunction Indication Light) illuminates and any of the following DTCs (P0340, P0403, P0443, P0660, or P1487) may be stored in the PCM memory.
These conditions may be caused by an inappropriate logic within PCM programming.
Vehicles having these concern should have the vehicles repaired using the following procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. When you encounter these concerns, perform the WDS "Module Reprogramming" procedure and reprogram the Powertrain Control Module using WDS B22NM or later software.
2. Install revised PCM calibration sticker (9999-95-AMDC 97 available through MStore) in appropriate position (next to vehicle emissions label) with the calibration P/N provided in CALIBRATION INFORMATION.
3. Verify repair by road testing the vehicle.
- If MIL does not illuminate and DTC(s) are not stored, release the vehicle to customer.
- If MIL illuminates and the DTC(s) are stored, follow the normal troubleshooting for each DTC according to the Workshop Manual (section 01-02A ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC [ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM (AJ)].
CALIBRATION INFORMATION
New PCM Calibration Part number is 2ALF-12A650-AE. File name is QHABXAI (Without burglar alarm).
New PCM Calibration Part number is 2ALF-12A650-BE. File name is QHABXBI (With burglar alarm).
NOTE:
^ WDS shows the calibration part number after programming the PCM.
^ Please be aware that PCM calibration part numbers and file names listed in any Service Bulletin may change due to future releases of WDS software and additional revisions made to those calibrations for service related concerns. When reprogramming a PCM, WDS will always display the "latest" calibration P/N available for that vehicle. If any calibration has been revised/updated to contain new information for a new service concern/issue, it will also contain all previously released calibrations.
^ While the PCM is being reprogrammed, the "OD/OFF" light will stay flashing. This is normal and will not affect the reprogramming of the PCM.
