Repair Procedure

1. Verify concern.

2. Road test the vehicle to determine if there is a drive ability or transmission shifting concern.

^ If there is a drive ability or transmission shifting concern, follow normal diagnostics in the Workshop Manual (section 05-03 AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING).

^ If normal diagnostics do not reveal a root cause, proceed to STEP 3.

3. Use WDS, NGS (in generic mode) or ground the TAT terminal in DLC # )1 to check for DTCs.

^ If the DTC retrieved is not P0757, follow troubleshooting procedure for that specific DTC according to the Workshop Manual (section 05-02 DTC TABLE).

^ If the DTC retrieved is P0757 and the transmission operation is normal. proceed to STEP 4.

4. Write down the customer's radio station pre-sets.

5. Disconnect the battery negative cable.

6. Remove the TCM from the vehicle according to the Workshop Manual (section 05-17 TCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

7. Re-flash the TCM using the procedures below:

^ Procedure 1: Installing Flashing Software

^ Procedure 2: First Time Re-Flash

^ Procedure 3: Quick Reflash

NOTE:
If you encounter problems with the re-flash procedure or software, call the Mazda Systems Help Center.

Procedure 1: Installing Flashing Software: This procedure is for downloading and installing the flashing software (this procedure only needs to be done 1-time.

A. Turn on computer.





B. Open your Internet browser "Microsoft Internet Explorer".





C. If you see this screen, enter your "Login Profile" and "Password" : otherwise go to step D.

^ Select"Connect".





D. Select "ESI Home Page"





E. Enter your "User Name" and "Password":





F. Type this address exactly as it appears in the address box of your internet browser:

^ http//esi.mazdausa.com/html/m2501.html





G. Select "MPV-REFLASH".





H. Select "Save this file to disc".





I. Make sure you save to "Desktop".





J. Select "Close".





K. Select "X" to close ESI.

L. If you have a phone dialer program or any other programs open, make sure you close them now.





M. Click the "right" mouse button on any open area of the desktop.





N. Select "Properties" from the drop down menu.





0. Select the "Screen Saver" tab.





P. Locate the file "Reflash.ZIP" on your desktop and open it.





Q. Select "Actions" and "Select All".





R. Select "Extract".





S. Select "Desktop" and then select "Extract".





T. Select "X" to close the window.

U. The reflash software is now installed.

V. Perform "Procedure 2: First Time Re-Flash".

Procedure 2: First Time Re-Flash is for using the Flash Kit and Re-Flash software for the first time.





A. Figure shown identifies the TCM Flash Kit components:





TCM Flash kit part number MT02-K2-001. One kit was sent to each dealer, replacement kits can be purchased on MSTORE.

B. Shut down the computer.

C. Turn the Flash-Cube OFF.





D. Connect RS-232C cable to the back of the computer, use figure for the type of computer you have:





E. Connect the Flash-Cube 110 volt power supply cable.

F. Turn the computer ON.





G. Find the folder on the desktop called "REFLASH" and open it.





H. Open the program called "Flash32r.exe"





I. Select the "Write program" button.





J. Select the program file "FLASH04.BIN", then select "Open".





K. Select the "ROM file" button.





L. Select the program file "FHEAF31.zhge:, and then select "Open".





M. Change "End" to "7FFFF".





N. Select the correct Com port for your type of computer:

For Compac computers select "Com4".

For Dell computers select "Com1".





O. Verify the settings:





P. Connect the two-Flash-Cube connectors to an MPV TCM.





Q. Switch the Flash-Cube to "ON", wait 1-second, in less then 10-seconds, select "Connect".





R. After selecting "Connect":





S. After selecting "Write":





T. After selecting "Verify":





U. Turn Flash-Cube "OFF".





V. Select "End".

W. Disconnect the TCM.





X Click the "right" mouse button on an open area of the desktop.





Y. Select "Properties" from the drop down menu.





Z. Select "Screen Saver" tab.

AA MPV TCM Re-Flash is now complete.

Procedure 3: Quick Re-Flash is a quick procedure for use after you have installed the software and performed the First Time Re-Flash.

A. Turn "OFF" the screen saver. See step M through O of procedure 1 for instructions.

B. Open the folder on the desktop called "REFLASH".

C. Open the program "Flash32r.exe".





D. Verify the screen settings:

E. Connect the two-Flash-Cube connectors to an MPV TCM>

F. Switch the Flash-Cube ON, wait 1-second, in less then 10-seconds, select "Connect" and wait for the message "Writing program forwarding completion".

G. Select "Write", and wait for the message "Flash-ROM writing completion".

H. Select "Verify", and wait for the message "Verify completion".

I. Turn the Flash-Cube "OFF".

J. Repeat steps F through I for additional TCM's.

NOTE:
If the procedure is interrupted, you may turn off the Flash-Cube and start again from step F.

K. Select "End".

L. Disconnect the TCM.

M. Turn the screen saver on; see step X through Z of procedure 2.

N. MPV TCM Re-Flash is now complete, go to Step 8.

8. Using a permanent marker, write an "H" on the TCM near the part number to indicate the new software calibration level.

9. Install the TCM to the vehicle according to the Workshop Manual (section 05-17 TCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

10. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

11. Reset customers radio station presets.

12. Verify repair.
