Towing Information: Service and Repair

TOWING

- Proper lifting and towing are necessary to prevent damage to the vehicle. State and local laws must be followed.
- A towed vehicle usually should have its front wheels off the ground. If excessive damage or other conditions prevent this, use wheel dollies.
- When towing with the rear wheels on the ground, release the parking brake.






CAUTION: Do not tow the vehicle backward with driving wheels on the ground. This may cause internal damage to the transaxle.

CAUTION: Do not tow with sling-type equipment. This could damage your vehicle. Use wheel-lift or flatbed equipment.




- If all four wheels are on the ground, the vehicle may be towed only forward. Do not exceed 35 mph (56 km/h) and a distance of 50 miles (80 km) or damage to the transaxle could occur.

CAUTION:
- Follow these instructions when towing the vehicle with all wheels on the ground.

1. Set the transaxle in neutral.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position.
3. Release the parking brake.
4. Remember that power assist for the brakes and steering will not be available when the engine is not running.




- If speed must exceed 35 mph (56 km/h) or a towing distance 50 miles (80 km), use one of these methods:
- Tow with the front wheels off the ground.
- Place the front wheels on dollies.
- Transport vehicle on a flatbed truck.
