EGR Valve Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection

EGR VALVE POSITION SENSOR INSPECTION

System Inspection

1. Disconnect the PCM connector.




2. Connect the SST (EMS adapter harness) between the PCM and the vehicle harness connectors.






NOTE: In order to measure the voltage, insert the positive voltmeter probe into the female terminal of the SST (EMS adapter harness) connectors.

3. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the EGR valve and connect the vacuum pump to the EGR valve.
4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

Specification:







5. Verify that the PCM terminal 3R voltage is within specification.
- If the harnesses are okay, replace the EGR valve.
- If not as specified, inspect the harness between EGR valve position sensor and PCM.

Inspection

1. Disconnect the EGR valve position sensor connector.
2. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the EGR valve and connect the vacuum pump to the EGR valve.

Specification:







3. Use an ohmmeter to measure the resistance between the terminals as shown in the table.
- If not as specified, replace the EGR valve.
