Fuel Pump Replacement
FUEL TANK DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY1. Remove the fuel tank.
2. Disassemble in the order indicated in the table.
3. Assemble in the reverse order of disassembly.
Fuel Pipe Disassembly Note
1. Verify that the fuel pipe joint area is free of foreign material. Clean if necessary.
2. Squeeze the tabs of the retainer and disconnect the fuel pipe connector.
CAUTION: Removing the retainer from the disconnected pipe will reduce the effectiveness of the retainer. The retainer must be replaced when any of the following apply.
1. Retainer has been removed.
2. Scratches or damages have been observed on the retainer.
3. Fuel pump component has been replaced.
4. Fuel tank has been replaced.
5. Fuel pipe has been replaced.
3. Cover the disconnected connector and pipe to prevent them from being scratched or contaminated with foreign material.
CAUTION: Removing the retainer using a tool can damage the pipe and cause fuel leakage. Remove the retainer by opening the tabs outward by hand.
- If removal of the retainer is required, remove it in the following procedure.
i. Open the tabs of the retainer outward.
ii. Remove and discard the retainer.
Fuel Pipe Assembly Note
1. When retainer is not removed, perform the following procedure.
1. Inspect the fuel pipe for kinks.
- Replace the fuel pipe if necessary.
2. Verify that the inside of the pipe and the connector is free of foreign material and damage.
- Clean if necessary, taking care not to damage the sealing surfaces.
3. Align the pipe and connector so that the tabs of the retainer are correctly fitted into the connector.
4. Push the connector into the retainer until two clicks are heard.
5. Pull the connector by hand and verify that it is installed securely.
6. Visually inspect that the tabs of the retainer are securely fitted with the connector.
2. When retainer is removed, perform the following procedure.
NOTE: Use the designated genuine retainer only.
1. Install a new retainer onto the connector.
2. Verify that the inside of the pipe and the connector is free of foreign material and damage.
- Clean if necessary, taking care not to damage the sealing surfaces.
3. Push the connector into the retainer until a click is heard.
4. Pull the connector by hand and verify that it is installed securely.
5. Visually inspect that the tabs of the retainer are securely fitted with the connector.
Fuel Pump Component Disassembly/Assembly Note
1. Disassemble/assemble the fuel pump component using the SST.
Tightening torque: 94 - 102 N.m {9.5 - 10.5 kgf.m, 69 - 75 ft.lbf}
