Starter Motor: Service and Repair
Removal and InstallationWARNING: When repairing the starter motor or working underhood in the vicinity of the starter motor, note the heavy gauge input lead connected to the starter solenoid is hot at all times. Make sure the protective cap is installed over the terminal and is reinstalled after repairing. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the starter bolts.
3. Raise and support the vehicle.
4. Remove the halfshaft support bracket bolts and nuts.
NOTE: Generator removed from illustration for clarity.
5. Remove the battery cable and starter control electrical connector nuts.
6. Remove the starter.
7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
