MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULE

The multifunction module consists of the generic electronic module (GEM).
The GEM controls the following features:

- Battery saver
- Illuminated entry
- Headlamp control
- Interior lamp control
- Power door locks
- Remote keyless entry (RKE)
- Accessory delay
- Door ajar output control

Refer to the Tribute Wiring Diagram for schematic information.

For rear wiper/washer control and interval timer concerns, refer to TROUBLESHOOTING INDEX - WIPERS AND WASHERS.

For interior lamps/illuminated entry and battery saver concerns, refer to TROUBLESHOOTING INDEX - INTERIOR LIGHTING.

For driver one-touch-down power window concerns, refer to TROUBLESHOOTING INDEX - POWER DOOR LOCKS/KEYLESS ENTRY REMOTE TRANSMITTER.

For auto headlamp concerns, refer to TROUBLESHOOTING INDEX - HEADLAMPS.

For keyless entry/power door lock concerns, refer to TROUBLESHOOTING INDEX - POWER DOOR LOCKS/KEYLESS ENTRY REMOTE TRANSMITTER.

For accessory delay concerns, refer to TROUBLESHOOTING INDEX - POWER WINDOWS.

Principles of Operation

The generic electronic module (GEM) constantly monitors its subsystems for concerns. If a concern is found in one of the subsystems, the GEM will record the concern in the form of a diagnostic trouble code (DTC). The ignition switch position is very important to the GEM function. Erratic or unexpected GEM function can often be traced to problems with these GEM inputs.
