Flex Plate: Service and Repair
FLYWHEEL/FLEXPLATE REMOVAL / INSTALLATION-2.3LRemoval
1. Remove the transmission.
2. Remove the clutch, if so equipped.
3. Remove the bolts and the flywheel or flexplate.
Installation
Note:
^ Engine balancing is not required. Balance weights should not be installed on the new flywheel.
Note:
^ Special bolts are used for installation. Do not use standard bolts.
1. Inspect the pilot bearing (manual transmission only). Install a new pilot bearing as necessary.
2. Install the flywheel or flexplate. Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown in three stages.
^ Stage 1: Tighten to 50 Nm {5.1 kgf-cm, 37 lbs.}.
^ Stage 2: Tighten to 80 Nm {8.16 kgf-cm, 50 lbs.}.
^ Stage 3: Tighten to 112 Nm {11.42 kgf-cm, 83 lbs.}.
3. Install the clutch, if so equipped.
4. Install the transmission.
