Alternator: Service and Repair

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

1. Disconnect the battery cables. For additional information, refer to BATTERY DISCONNECT.
2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT.
3. Lower the vehicle.




4. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
1. Remove the nut and disconnect the B+ cable.
2. Remove the connector.




5. Remove the lower generator bolts.

NOTE: Insufficient clearance does not allow the bolt to be completely removed.




6. Loosen the upper generator bolt from the engine but do not remove it from the generator.
7. Move the generator to the rear of the vehicle, then lift up and out of the engine compartment.

NOTE: Before reassembling, place the upper bolt into the generator.

8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
