Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

TRANSAXLE DRIVE CYCLE TEST

Note:
^ The Transaxle Drive Cycle Test must be carried out exactly. Faults have to occur consecutively for codes P0731, P0732, P0733, and P0734 to be set.

1. Record and then erase Quick Test codes.
2. Warm engine to normal operating temperature.
3. Make sure transaxle fluid level is correct.
4. With transaxle in D position, press transaxle control switch (TCS) (LED lamp should illuminate) and moderately accelerate from a stop to 64 km/h (40 mph). This allows the transaxle to shift into third gear. Hold the speed and throttle opening steady for a minimum of 15 seconds (30 seconds above an altitude of 4000 feet above sea level).
5. Press TCS (LED lamp should turn off) and accelerate from 64 km/h (40 mph) to 80 km/h (50 mph). This allows the transaxle to shift into fourth gear. Hold the speed and throttle opening steady for a minimum of 15 seconds.
6. With the transaxle in fourth gear and maintaining steady speed and throttle opening, lightly apply brake pedal (to operate stoplamps). Then hold the speed and throttle steady for an additional five seconds (minimum).
7. Brake to a stop and remain stopped for a minimum of 20 seconds.
8. Repeat Steps 4 through 6 at least five times.
9. Carry out Quick Test and record continuous codes.
