PULLEY BREAKAGE / CHARGING WARNING LIGHT ON /
OVERHEATING

2004-) 2005 Mazda3, manual transmission only with VINs lower than JM1BK**** 51 231767
(produced before October 1, 2004)

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may experience any of the following symptoms:

^ Unusual noise and/or smell from the engine compartment

^ Charging system warning light is ON

^ Overheating

This may be caused by a faulty drive belt auto tensioner pulley.





Customers having this concern should have their vehicles repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Inspect drive belt auto tensioner pulley for damage.

^ If damage, replace with modified part according to Workshop Manual (section 01-10 DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT).

NOTE:
The A/C belt and drive belt must also be replaced at the same time. Be sure to order all 3 parts.

2. Verify repair.
