1997-2007 B-SERIES - AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SERVICE PART LEVEL CHANGE/COMPATIBILITY - SERVICE TIP

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
1997 - 2007 B-Series vehicles

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles equipped with a 5R44E or 5R55E transmission may require repair. This service bulletin is being published for informational purpose only in order to avoid mixing and/or matching incorrect service parts which will cause a fluid leak. Beginning with 8/29/2006 production, the 5R44E or 5R55E automatic transmissions have a new transmission case, oil pan, REUSABLE oil pan gasket, and oil pan bolts.

SERVICE TIP

The 5R44E / 5R55E transmission oil pan gasket has been redesigned to be reusable if it is removed for a nonleak related transmission service concern. The gasket should be inspected for damage and cleaned, along with the mating surfaces, before reuse. The case and oil pan rails have been redesigned to properly mate with the new gasket to eliminate fluid leaks.

For 1997-2007 B-Series with the old design 4R44E / 5R44E and 5R55E transmissions, do not mix and match old design and new design parts when servicing the oil pan gasket, the oil pan, or the case.

If replacing the old design case and/or fluid pan, you must use all new components. This includes the case, oil pan, oil pan gasket, and oil pan bolts [new torque specification: 7 lb-ft (10 Nm)].

NOTE:
^ The new case, pan, and gasket may be used to service past model transmissions from 1997.

^ The old design oil pan gasket will be continued for past model applications.
