Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair
MANUAL TRANSMISSION REMOVAL / INSTALLATION1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Place the transmission in NEUTRAL.
3. Remove the gearshift lever.
4. Disconnect the oxygen sensor and backup lamp switches.
5. Raise and support the vehicle.
6. If transmission disassembly is required, drain the transmission fluid.
Note:
^ To maintain initial propeller shaft balance, mark the propeller shaft centering socket yoke and rear axle universal joint flange so they may be installed in their original positions.
7. Mark the propeller shaft centering socket yoke and rear axle universal joint flange.
8. Remove the rear propeller shaft.
9. On 4x4 vehicles, remove the transfer case.
10. Use the SST to disconnect the clutch line.
11. Remove the starter.
12. Position a jack under the transmission.
13. Remove the transmission mount to crossmember nuts.
14. Remove the crossmember.
15. Remove the transmission bolt and reposition exhaust bracket.
Tightening torque 87 - 110 Nm (8.9 - 11.2 kgf-m, 64 - 81 ft. lbs.)
16. Remove the exhaust inlet crossover pipe.
Note:
^ Lower the transmission enough to gain access to the transmission to engine bolts. USE a long extension to remove the bolts.
17. Remove the nine transmission to engine bolts.
18. Remove the transmission.
19. Install in reverse order of removal.
20. Add specified amount of transmission oil.
21. Warm up the engine and transmission, inspect for oil leakage and inspect transmission operation.
