Removal/Installation
ENGINE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Drain the engine coolant.
3. Drain the ATF.
4. Remove the plug hole plate.
5. Disconnect the P/S oil pump pipes and drain the P/S fluid reservoir.
6. Remove the splash shield (RH).
7. Remove the joint shaft (RH).
8. Disconnect the drive shaft (LH) from the transaxle.
9. Remove the battery and battery tray.
10. Remove the air cleaner, intake air duct, accelerator cable and bracket, and vacuum hose.
11. Remove the ATF filter tube and selector cable.
12. Remove the cruise control actuator.
13. Remove the radiator.
14. Remove the plastic fuel hose.
Warning:
^ Fuel vapor is hazardous. It can very easily ignite, causing serious injury and damage. Always keep sparks and flames away from fuel.
^ Fuel line spills and leakage are dangerous. Fuel can ignite and cause serious injuries or death and damage. Fuel can also irritate skin and eyes. To prevent this, always complete the "Fuel Line Safety Procedure".
15. Disconnect the PCM wiring harness (center connector) at the PCM.
Note: Do not disconnect the engine side of this harness.
16. Pull harness through the dash lower panel and into the engine compartment.
17. Remove the TWC (LH).
18. Remove the front pipe.
19. Remove the drive belt.
20. Remove the A/C compressor with the pipes still connected. Position the A/C compressor so that it is out of the way. Use wire or rope to secure.
21. Remove the generator and bracket.

22. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
23. Install in the reverse order of removal.
24. Start the engine and:
1. Inspect for the engine oil, engine coolant, transaxle oil and fuel leakage.
2. Verify the ignition timing, idle speed and idle mixture.
Note: If the engine is overhauled and installed to the vehicle, perform the road test and verify that there is no abnormality.
Engine Mount Member Removal Note
1. Remove the wiper motor and link.
2. Suspend the engine using the SSTs.
3. Remove the No.2 engine mount nut A.
No.1 Engine Mount Through Bolt Removal Note
1. Remove the through bolt which mounts the No. 1 engine mount rubber and joint bracket. Do not remove the No. 1 engine mount rubber from the vehicle.
2. Before removing the No.1 engine joint bracket, set the tool under the transaxle.
No.4 Engine Mount Rubber Removal Note
1. Loosen the No.4 engine mount rubber installation bolt, but do not remove the mount from the vehicle.
2. Remove the through bolt which mounts the mount rubber and joint bracket.
No.4 Engine Joint Bracket Installation Note
1. Tighten the nut on the center of the joint bracket first, then tighten the both side nut.
No.3 Engine Mount Nut Installation Note
1. Install all engine mounts and verify that clearances A and B of the No.3 engine joint bracket are within the specifications.
^ If not as specified, reassemble the engine mounts, according to the following procedure.
Caution:
^ If the clearances A and B of the No.3 engine joint bracket are out of specifications, engine vibration and noise can increase. Make sure that the clearances are within the specifications.
Specifications
A: 23.5 - 26.5 mm (0.926 - 1.04 inch)
B: 19.5 - 22.5 mm (0.768 - 0.885 inch)
1. Remove the No.3 joint bracket.
2. Loosen the No.1 and No.4 engine mount through bolts.
3. Before tightening the No.1 and No.4 engine mount through bolts to fix the engine, position the engine so that the clearances A and B of the No.3 joint bracket are approximately within the specifications.
Note: Slight displacement can be adjusted with the adjusting holes of the No.3 engine joint bracket.
4. Tighten the No.1 and No.4 engine mount through bolts.
5. Install the No.3 engine joint bracket so that clearances A and B are within the specifications.
