Flywheel: Service and Repair

FLYWHEEL/FLEXPLATE REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 2.31.

Removal
1. Remove the transmission.





2. Remove the clutch, if so equipped.
3. Install the special tool and remove the bolts and the flywheel or flexplate.

Installation

Note: Engine balancing is not required. Balance weights should not be installed on the new flywheel.

Note: Special bolts are used for installation. Do not use standard bolts.

1. Inspect the pilot bearing (manual transmission only). Install a new pilot bearing as necessary.
2. Install the flywheel or flexplate.
3. Install the special tool.





4. Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown in three stages.
^ Stage 1: Tighten to 50 Nm (5.1 kgf-m, 37 ft. lbs.).
^ Stage 2: Tighten to 80 Nm (8.16 kgf-m, 59 ft. lbs.).
^ Stage 3: Tighten to 112 Nm (11.42 kgf-m, 83 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the clutch, if so equipped.
6. Install the transmission.
