Compressor Fitting HVAC: Service and Repair

A/C MANIFOLD AND TUBE ASSEMBLY REMOVAL / INSTALLATION

NOTE: Replacement of the suction accumulator is not required when repairing the air conditioning system except when there is physical evidence of system contamination from a failed A/C compressor or damage to the suction accumulator.

1. Recover the refrigerant, see A/C REFRIGERANT SYSTEM TESTS.
2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. See ENGINE AIR CLEANER REMOVAL / INSTALLATION.
3. Remove the A/C compressor.

4. Disconnect the pressure cut-off switch electrical connector.

5. Disconnect the compressor manifold and tube assembly from the condenser core.
- Discard the O-ring seal.

6. Disconnect the compressor manifold and tube assembly spring lock coupling from the suction accumulator. See A/C SPRING LOCK COUPLING.
- Discard the O-ring seal.

7. Raise and support the vehicle. See LIFTING.

8. Remove the bolt and detach the compressor manifold and tube assembly.
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Remove the compressor manifold and tube assembly.
11. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- If a new compressor manifold and tube assembly is to be installed, transfer the pressure cutoff switch to the new compressor manifold and tube assembly.
- Lubricate the refrigerant system with the correct amount of clean refrigerant oil. See A/C REFRIGERANT OIL ADDITION.
- Install new O-ring seals lubricated with clean refrigerant oil.

12. Evacuate, leak test, and charge the refrigerant system. See A/C REFRIGERANT SYSTEM TESTS.
