Keyless Entry Transmitter: Description and Operation

Remote Transmitter

The remote transmitter can be programmed using the ignition lock cylinder method
The remote transmitter initiates the following electronic system functions:
- unlocks the driver door
- unlocks all doors
- locks all doors
- activate/deactivate the panic alarm
- commands the interior lamps on (when unlocking) and off (when locking)
- sounds the horn once when LOCK is pressed twice within 3 seconds and the doors are closed.

The remote transmitter has a minimum operating range of 10 m (33 feet).

Remote Transmitter Lock/Unlock Control - Unlock
The remote transmitter feature provides lock/unlock functions independently of key position, vehicle speed, or transaxle position. The remote transmitter feature provides a two-step process for unlocking the doors. Upon receipt of the first requests for unlocking the doors, the remote control feature commands the SJB to unlock the driver door only. If another unlock command is received within three seconds of the first, the remote transmitter feature will command that all doors be unlocked.

Remote Transmitter Lock/Unlock Control - Lock
The remote transmitter feature requests that all the doors be locked when the door lock control switch LOCK button is pressed On any press of the LOCK button with all doors closed the remote transmitter feature commands one flash of the parking lamps. If any door is ajar, no flash will occur, indicating it locked all the doors but one or more doors are ajar. As soon as the last door is closed, the vehicle provides the one flash of the parking lamps. If two presses of the LOCK button are received within three seconds the horn chirps once, and the parking lamps flash to indicate that all the doors are closed and locked. If any door is ajar when the second lock command is received within three seconds of the first, the remote transmitter feature commands the horn chirp twice without flashing the parking lamps to indicate it locked all the doors but one or more doors are ajar. When the key is in the ON or START position, no parking lamp flashes or horn chirp confirmations occur.

Panic Alarm
The panic alarm feature provides audible and visual alarms which are evident from the exterior of the vehicle. The panic alarm feature commands that the parking lamps are flashed and horn sounds until deactivation. The flashing of the outputs occurs simultaneously. Activation of the panic alarm is accomplished by pressing the PANIC button on a remote transmitter whenever the key is in the OFF or ACC positions. At all other times this feature is disabled Deactivation of an active panic alarm is accomplished by 1) a second press of the remote transmitter PANIC button, 2) the key is switched out of the OFF or ACC position or, 3) a period of 2 minutes and 45 seconds has elapsed since the initial activation.

Anti-Theft - Perimeter Alarm System
The perimeter anti-theft system provides for vehicle security through an audible and visual notification if the vehicle exterior is invaded without the system being shut off. The system self-arms when the doors, litigate and hood are closed and the key is OFF Any open door, hood, litigate glass or liftgate will allow the system to arm except for the open entry point. The hood ajar switch, door ajar switches liftgate glass ajar switch and liftgate ajar switch cause these circuits to register as normally closed circuits. The smart junction box (SJB) monitors the status of the hood ajar, door ajar, liftgate glass and liftgate ajar switches If these circuits indicate an open entry point, the switch opens the circuit to the SJB, which energizes the horn and flasher relays (causing the horn to sound and the parking lamps to flash). The SJB turns off the anti-theft system when it receives a command through the keyless entry keypad, remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitter, or anti-theft alarm inhibit switch.
