Pinpoint Test 1

PINPOINT TEST 1: THE BACKUP LAMPS ARE INOPERATIVE

Step 1:

Step 2 - 5:

Step 6 - 11:

Step 12:

Normal Operation - Automatic Transmission
When the transaxle is placed in REVERSE, the PCM sends a message over the high speed CAN to the instrument cluster indicating the transaxle is in reverse gear. The instrument cluster then sends a message over the medium speed CAN to the SJB indicating the transaxle is in reverse gear. The SJB then provides ground to an internal solenoid which routes power to circuit (B/P) to the backup lamps. Ground is provided to the backup lamps through circuit (B).

Normal Operation - Manual transaxle
The SJB sends a reference signal to the reversing lamp switch through circuit (V/W). When the transaxle is placed into reverse gear, the reversing lamp switch routes the voltage signal to ground through circuit (B).

When the transaxle is placed in REVERSE, the SJB provides ground to an internal relay which routes power to circuit (B/P) to the backup lamps. Ground is provided to the backup lamps through circuit (B).

Possible Causes
- circuit (B) open
- circuit (B/P) open
- circuit (V/W) open
- reversing lamp switch
- SJB
- PCM
- instrument cluster
